Central Diner and Grille is more upscale than a typical diner. Their menu lists breakfast foods such as omelettes and French toast, lunch foods such as wraps and specialty sandwiches, dinner foods such as steaks and pastas, and desserts such as tiramisu and cheesecake. Prices are average. In the past couple of years, my husband and I have eaten at this diner a couple of times. For our first visit, an early dinner, we did not have to wait for a table. Throughout the service, our waitress was very friendly, but we did have a long wait toward the end of the meal. The waitress told us that a stranger had already paid for our meal, but another employee said that he mixed up our bill with another customer's bill, so we still had to pay. I rated the salad as 4 stars, the crab mushrooms as 4 stars, the scallops as 4 stars, the French onion soup as 4 stars, the pasta as 4 stars, and the chicken parmigiana as 4.5 stars. For our second visit, a weekend breakfast, the seating hostess immediately greeted us. She asked if a table was OK, and we said yes, but she walked us to a booth instead. My husband asked for a table for more room, and she gave us a table. Our waitress was very timely and polite throughout our meal. I rate my Belgian waffle with berries as 5 stars and my bacon as 5 stars. My husband rated his eggs Benedict as 3 stars (the Canadian bacon was too thick and hard), his home fries as 3 stars, and his bagel with cream cheese as 4 stars. We paid our bill upfront, not at the table.

I took my mom to Central Diner for her birthday and we had a great experience! The burger was delicious & I LOVED the sweet potato fries! My mom said her wrap was also delicious and she was obsessed with their coleslaw. Our server was so kind and did a wonderful job navigating the lunch rush. It was my first time sitting outdoors and I loved it! The patio is an adorable space with plenty of room between tables. They also had ceiling fans which totally helped keep us cool with the heat. All around, it was a great trip & I 100% recommend you try those sweet potato fries hehe!

Little pricy but worth it, great food! Their deserts are to die for, huge servings Place is always busy but not a problem I'd got out of my way to eat there!

we had a wonderful experience, our server maddie and the leader at the door Mary Beth both suggested the strawberry sangria which was delightful with both indoor and outdoor seating, we had plenty of options for our visit! our appetizer came out quick and hot, salad came out fantastic in a chill bowl, and the food was delicious. really great service from Maddie, refills were timely polite conversation, the restaurant was clean would recommend! :)

the strawberry sangrias are great!! The pancakes are the BEST!!!!!!!!! with nutella bananas chococlate syrup sugar and whip cream (plus syrup) we had a great experience and come every time I am in Town!

Love this place! Went with the family and we were joyfully greeted by Mary Beth. After some chit chat she told me about a special drink they had that night they were calling Pink Sangria. My daughter and I both got one and LOVED it. Our dinners were so good and we all ordered desserts to go because we were so full. This place never disappoints.

Central Diner is Always a treat!!! What you mostly NEED to know is PASTITSIO!!! Dear lerdy yummmmmmm and I have enough to enjoy for a 2nd meal

Great diner in Pittsburgh. Visiting my son and his family and they brought us here. Excellent food! They were very clean and the staff was super friendly. It gave me the feeling of a more upscale diner but at good price points. One thing I do have to say that I'm sure most will agree...when you go into a diner with a large focus on breakfast and brunch, they have a smell. Not necessarily a bad smell but it's synonymous with those type places. NOT HERE! Just good food aroma. Check the pics and enjoy your food!

I've been to Central Diner more times than I can count and somehow I've never left a review! The food and service is almost always good. This time we went was no exception. We were there on a Friday night and it was super busy but we were seated immediately. The dining room and two outside heated patios were full. The waitstaff did an amazing job at managing so many tables at once. Our server was very kind and attentive. We ordered something we've both had before: I had the monte christo and my fiancé ordered the gyro. The monte christo is like 3 sandwiches in one - so good and really nice fresh turkey breast and ham! He always raves about the gyro and it was no exception last night! We also ordered the chicken finger appetizer which was bad. They're the most average chicken fingers you'll ever eat and they were $12. Don't order these - they have much better apps there than this lol I have to give a final shoutout to the front of house staff. If you've never been to central, they have these amazing cakes there, and they're on display in the front cooler case. A young man with a disability came up to look at the case and the front of house staff were so kind and went over each cake, describing the flavors and everything. When they were done explaining the options to him, one woman (who I assume was the manager) walked him back to his table in the dining room and I heard her assure him their server could cut him a slice of any one he wanted. This is common kindness and behavior I would expect out of anyone on a normal day, but there was something so special about this in the middle of a big, busy restaurant so I wanted to mention it. As always, we'll be back :)
